Coco Beach, located in Quatre Cocos in the Flacq district of Mauritius, is a beautiful bay with fine sand surrounded by lush vegetation. It is a popular spot for its lagoon with crystal clear waters and its peaceful atmosphere, perfect for kitesurfing sessions.
The beach offers a wide space for launching and is well-suited for riders looking for an authentic setting without too much crowd. The rocks at the ends frame the area, providing a defined and safe spot for navigation.
Close to Poste de Flacq, it is an ideal place to combine riding and relaxation with accessible nightlife nearby.
The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
The spot at Coco Beach works ideally with winds oriented NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE, which come in side-on to side-shore relative to the east-facing beach. The navigation area is a beautiful flat to choppy lagoon with shallow sandy waters, perfect for freeride or learning.
Launching takes place on a medium-sized sandy beach, but be careful of the rocks at both ends. The take-off area is directly accessible from the beach, with enough space for both beginners and advanced riders. At high tide, the water surface is optimal, flat, and safe on the distant reef; at low tide, the reef and corals are exposed, making navigation technical.
Stay in the lagoon to avoid boats that sometimes pass by, and do not go out towards the reef where the waves are not rideable. It is a spot for all levels thanks to its gradual depth and clear water that allows you to see the bottom.
Ideal conditions are winds of 15-25 knots coming from NE to SE, at high tide for a flat water surface and comfortable depth.
The water surface is flat to choppy in the lagoon, with crystal clear and shallow water. At high tide, it is ideally flat for tricks; at low tide, it becomes choppy near the shore with the shallow reef.
No rideable waves in the kitesurfing area, thanks to the protection of the distant reef.
Currents are generally weak in the lagoon of Coco Beach. However, it is important to monitor areas near the passes or the reef where they can accelerate with the tide.
Tides are moderate, with a range that exposes the reef at low water; prefer high tide for a smooth navigation.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in medium winds of 15-20 knots, and 7 to 9 m² when it blows at 20-25 knots. For beginners, go larger in the calm lagoon.
The prevailing winds are trade winds from the east (NE to SE), steady and of medium strength around 15-25 knots in season. They blow side-shore on the east beach, providing stable conditions once out of the coastal area.
The regime is reliable during the dry season, with few wind holes in the protected lagoon.
The climate at Coco Beach is tropical, with pleasant temperatures year-round around 24-30°C in the air and 22-26°C in the water. The optimal season for kitesurfing extends from May to November, with consistent trade winds and dry weather.
In summer (December to April), it is warmer and more humid, with possible rains, but the wind remains present in certain months like January, March, May, June, July, August, October, and November.
The depth is gradual and shallow with a mostly sandy bottom in the lagoon. You can stand up to about fifty meters from the shore, ideal for restarts.
