Katwijk aan Zee Strand
Pays-Bas · South Holland
Katwijk aan Zee is a popular kitesurfing spot on the North Sea coast in the Netherlands, in South Holland. Located on a wide sandy beach, it attracts riders for its varied conditions and friendly atmosphere.
The spot is organized into three dedicated zones: Skuytevaert to the south, KBS in the center, and Airtime to the north. To kitesurf, you must be a member of a local club and wear a specific lycra, especially during the high season from April to October.
With its large launch area and challenging waves, it is a favorite among locals and schools like Kiteschool Katwijk.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
Dominant winds come from the SW, W, and NW, often providing an ideal side-on or side-shore angle relative to the northwest-oriented beach. The water surface is generally choppy to wavy, with waves from 0.4 m to more depending on the 270° swell and tides.
Navigation areas are strictly delineated: zone 1A Skuytevaert (south) for beginners with a school, zone 5 KBS (middle), and zone 23 Airtime (north). Launching is done on the wide sand, easy even at low tide, but check the markers. Optimal takeoff near the clubs boulevard side vuurtoren (strandvak 5).
In summer, traffic is dense with surfers and bathers; stay in your zone. Conditions improve at low tide for more space, but onshore wind can make chop more pronounced in the afternoon.
