The beach works best when the wind comes in well over the bay, with often favorable orientations from the NW to W sector. The wind then arrives rather in a side-shore to side-on manner depending on the exact position on the beach, which remains the most exploitable for clean navigation. When the wind turns too onshore, the water surface becomes more choppy and launching can be less comfortable.
The spot is generally navigable on a sandy bottom, with a fairly direct launch area from the beach. There is usually space to rig and take off, but one must keep a clear area near the shore, especially on busy days. The water surface is often cleaner when the sea is calm to moderately formed, while a more established swell can create more wave navigation on the exposed edges.
The spot is noted as suitable for all levels, but it remains more comfortable for independent riders when the wind picks up. With 27.5 knots, one should expect a physical session, with marked traction and a navigation range that requires mastery of the waterstart and kite control.
The best sessions occur with a wind from NW to W, steady and of sustained strength without being excessive. A side-shore or slightly side-on wind provides the cleanest conditions for safe navigation.
The spot is particularly interesting when the sea remains organized and the Maestrale comes in well on the beach. It is in this context that Spiaggia Acciaroli offers its most reliable conditions.
The water surface is often mixed to formed, with a wave tendency when the swell comes in well. On cleaner days, one can find more consistent navigation, but it is not a pure flat spot.
When the Maestrale is well oriented, the sea can offer long and exploitable swells, with a quite pleasant behavior for engaged freeride and runs in the waves. However, with onshore wind or too much offshore, the spot quickly becomes less simple and less safe.
Currents are generally weak to moderate in the beach area, but they can strengthen near more exposed areas or if the sea is choppy. There is no strong indication of a very constraining tidal system at the spot, but one should remain attentive to the local evolution of the beach return.
The spot's operation is not very dependent on the tide, with a rather neutral note on this point. Navigation is mainly dictated by wind quality and sea state.
With the most common wind for this type of session, one often needs to plan for a range of 7 to 11 m². In sustained winds around 27.5 knots, sizes of 7 to 9 m² will be most suitable for most body types.
In more moderate winds, kites of 10 to 11 m² can still be useful. The exact choice will mainly depend on the rider's weight, level, and the state of the water.
The local wind regime is often associated with the Maestrale, which comes from the NW sector and can work well on this coastline. Consulted sources describe a spot that works well with a side shore to right-hand side wind when the Maestrale is well established.
The most interesting period generally runs from spring to the end of summer, with more regular windows between April and September. The spot can also react to other local thermal breezes, but the northwest wind remains the most consistent for aiming for a good session.
Acciaroli enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and more pleasant interseasons for kitesurfing. From May to September, air temperatures are generally the most favorable, with water also becoming warmer from late spring.
Spring and early autumn are often the most comfortable times to string together sessions, with less heat than in the height of summer. In summer, days can be very hot on the beach, so it's best to plan for hydration and protect equipment from the sun.
The bottom is described as sandy, with a generally gradual depth near the shore. The launch is from the beach, which facilitates the start but requires keeping an eye on the shore break area when the sea rises.
The spot remains generally accessible, with shallow water near the shore, then a depth that increases gradually. This is a positive point for control at the start, provided one stays in the clear area.
The water is most pleasant between June and September, with temperatures often suitable for a light wetsuit, or even short in the height of summer depending on the days. In spring and late autumn, the water remains cooler and requires more gear.
In winter, the temperature drops significantly and a thicker wetsuit becomes necessary. Along the Campanian coast, the thermal sensation remains more forgiving than in many areas further north.
