Lemnos - Gomati Beach
Grèce
Lemnos
The beach of Gomati, on the west coast of Limnos in the northern Aegean Sea, is a wild spot with its long sand dunes, the most extensive in Greece. Accessible by a dirt track, it offers a unique Saharan backdrop in the middle of nowhere. It is a favorite place for riders due to its powerful waves and isolated atmosphere.
Surrounded by pine trees and bordered by a fine sandy beach, Gomati attracts especially in spring and autumn when the wind picks up. The desert landscape and dunes make it a memorable place for freeride or wave sessions. Little frequented, it is ideal for those seeking authenticity away from the crowds.
Close to other spots like Keros, Gomati complements a stay on the island with its more challenging conditions. Locals and experienced travelers return for the challenge of waves that can reach several meters.

Informations utiles
Gomati is a spot oriented onshore to side-on with the Meltemi dominating from the northwest in summer. The water surface transforms into solid waves of several meters when the wind exceeds 25 knots, perfect for wave riding. Launching takes place on the wide, fine sandy beach, with a clear take-off area on the dunes.
The bay extends for several kilometers, offering space to navigate without hindrance, but the waves mainly form offshore with strong wind. In side-shore, the wind follows the coast, making sessions explosive for advanced freestyle. Little significant tide in the Mediterranean, the spot remains consistent, but beware of gusts on the dunes.
Access by dirt road, wild parking at the edge of the beach. Downwind zones to the north, with possible return on foot. Ideal for long self-sufficient sessions, with no clubs in the immediate vicinity unlike Keros.
Ideal conditions are with 20-30 knots from the northeast, side-on, for perfect waves and a smooth ride. Avoid too much offshore wind that pushes out to sea.
The water surface is typically choppy to wavy, with waves of 1 to 3 meters in strong conditions, ideal for surfing. Sandy bottom everywhere, crystal clear and transparent water. In light wind, it remains navigable but less fun for waves.
Currents are generally weak around Gomati thanks to the sheltered bay, but they can intensify offshore with strong winds. No marked tides in the Aegean Sea, the amplitude remains below 0.5 m, with no major impact on navigation.
Opt for sizes of 7 to 11 m² depending on the strength of the Meltemi, with 9-11 m² in summer standard and 7-9 m² in strong autumn sessions.
The wind regime follows the Meltemi, a constant thermal wind from the northwest in summer, blowing from 17 to 25 knots between 10:30 AM and 3:30 PM. In spring and autumn, sessions are more intense with forces reaching 30 knots and glassy waves. The wind builds gradually in the morning to peak around 2 PM.
The climate of Limnos is Mediterranean, hot and dry in summer with temperatures of 25 to 30°C from June to September. Mild winters hover around 10-15°C, but rain is rare. The best months for Gomati are spring and autumn for strong winds, while summer ensures daily sessions.
The depth increases gradually with a sandy bottom everywhere. Footing up to 100-200 m from the shore in the bay, then quickly deep offshore for jumps.
The water reaches 22-26°C in summer (July-August), drops to 16-20°C in spring and autumn, and 14-16°C in winter. Shorty wetsuit recommended outside the warm season.
