Germany · Saxe
The Markkleeberger See (East Side) is a kitesurfing spot located near Leipzig in Saxony, in the Leipziger Neuseenland. It is a former gravel extraction site transformed into an artificial lake, with a surf school and parking right next to it.
This typical baggersee attracts kitesurfers and windsurfers for its shallow water and easy access. Nearby, a whitewater canal for kayakers adds a sporty touch to the environment.
The spot is popular with locals and beginners due to its calm water and conditions suitable for learning.

The East Side spot offers a flachwasser area, perfect for calm sessions. The best winds come from SW for optimal side-on, but you can also navigate with NW or W, where the wind becomes side-off and small waves form.
Launching is easy from the grassy or sandy beach near the school, with a clear take-off area. The navigation area is wide on the east side of the lake, but be careful of designated areas to avoid swimmers or other water sports. With SW wind, the water remains flat to light chop, ideal for freestyle or freeride.
No tide since it’s a freshwater lake, the water level just varies with wind strength: glattwasser in light wind, kabbelwelle with stronger NW. Prefer days without too much local thermal for clean sessions.
