Localisation & Points d'intérêt
Informations utiles
Anse Michel beach is oriented southeast, directly exposed to the trade winds that blow regularly and side-on or side-shore depending on the exact wind angle. The water surface remains calm and flat thanks to the coral barrier that breaks the swell, ideal for freeride or foil navigation, even in sustained winds.
Launching is easy from the fine sandy beach, with no obstacles, and a wide take-off area under the coconut trees. The navigation area extends in the protected lagoon, up to about 300-500m from the shore before the reef, where caution is needed not to get too close.
At low tide, the lagoon is even flatter and shallower near the shore, perfect for beginners. The best winds come from the northeast to east, side-on perfect for this exposed spot. Local feature: constant wind all year round except in the calm season, and the presence of schools on-site for gear and coaching.
Ideal conditions are with winds NE to E between 15 and 25 knots, side-on perfect for this southeast spot. Constant strength without gusts, allowing for safe freeride or freestyle sessions.
The water surface is flat to light chop most of the time, thanks to the reef that filters the waves. Crystal clear and shallow water near the shore, ideal for progressing safely. In strong winds, a bit of chop forms but remains manageable.
Currents are weak in the lagoon protected by the coral reef. However, be cautious near the channel leading to Îlet Chevalier where the current can strengthen with the tide. Tides are moderate with an amplitude of about 1m, without major impact on navigation.
For typical winds of 15-25 knots, plan for sizes of 9 to 12m² for an average rider. Beginners will opt for 12m², while foil experts will go down to 7-9m² in sustained trade winds.
The dominant trade winds from the northeast to east blow regularly at 15-25 knots on Anse Michel, making the spot reliable almost all year round. The wind is constant and thermal in the afternoon, with long sessions possible thanks to the protection of the reef.
The tropical climate of Martinique offers warm temperatures year-round, averaging between 25°C and 30°C. Dry season from December to May with well-established trade winds, and wet season from June to November with more rain but often present wind.
Best months for kiting: January, February, March, April, May, August, September, October, November, December.
The depth is gradual with a mostly sandy bottom in the lagoon. You can stand up to about 50-100m from the shore, then it gently slopes down before the reef.
The water temperature varies little, around 26-29°C year-round. 27°C on average in the dry season, up to 29°C in the hot season, generally without the need for a wetsuit.
