Pouldreuzic

The Penhors beach, located in Pouldreuzic in the Audierne bay in Brittany, is a large stretch of easily accessible sand with many parking spaces. It is a very popular spot for surfing, bodyboarding, and kitesurfing, more confidential than the nearby Torche.

Labelled Blue Flag and a municipality labelled Surf City, it offers a preserved environment ideal for all levels. Locals regularly practice kiteboarding there in a relaxed atmosphere.

Close to Quimper, less than 30 minutes away, Penhors combines authentic nature and various water activities all year round.

Location

Detailed information

Penhors beach faces west in the Audierne bay, which favors side-on or side-shore winds from NW and W, the most common in Brittany. The water surface is generally choppy with west swell, forming waves over 15 km when present, but calmer during light days.

Entry to the water is directly from the large sandy beach, with no major obstacles. The kiteboarding navigation area extends towards the eastern extension, towards Ru-Vien beach in Plovan, to avoid bathers and surfers in the center. Launching is easy on the wide sand, with space for kites.

The tides have little influence on the spot due to the sheltered bay, but at low tide the edge remains usable. Be cautious of occasional rip currents that trap water. It is a versatile spot for freeride and light waves, usable all year round with ideal conditions in winter for kiteboarding.
