Penmarch

The beach of La Torche, located in Penmarch in southern Brittany, is a legendary spot for sliding in the bay of Audierne. Facing directly west, it attracts riders from all over the world thanks to its vast expanse of fine sand and consistent Atlantic winds.

It is a protected place where surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing coexist year-round. The dunes and rocky point add to the raw charm of this authentic corner of Finistère.

With its parking, schools, and restaurants on-site, it is easily accessible from Quimper or Pont-l'Abbé.

Location

Detailed information

The beach is oriented directly west, which means that westerly and southwesterly winds come in perfectly in side-onshore, making it safe and ideal for kitesurfing. Takeoff is directly on the large sandy beach, with plenty of space even when crowded.

The navigation area is marked by a kitesurf channel with yellow buoys set up by the municipality towards the middle of the bay, near the point, to avoid surfing areas. At low tide, a vast hard sand beach appears and offers space to set down the kite or practice land sailing, while at high tide, the water opens up widely.

The waves form a beach break on a sandy bottom, with powerful areas for wave riding and calmer parts for freestyle. Easy water entry everywhere on the beach, but stay in the channel for safety.
