Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The beach of Palavas is oriented east-west, exposed to the tramontane from the northwest which arrives in a side-on perfect for the beach, favoring a clean and readable water area. The onshore wind from the southeast is rarer but can create moderate chop, while the mistral from the north is sometimes offshore and makes launching technical near bathers.
The kiting area extends about 1 km wide, with easy launching everywhere on the sand. Prefer the western part towards Le Prévost for more space, avoid the crowded center in summer. At low tide, the water is more flat with sand showing, perfect for strapless; at high tide, slight swell possible if wind from the south.
Be cautious of swimming zones marked by yellow buoys, respect them strictly. Launch at the water's edge or on the wide beach, but watch for walkers. In strong tramontane, the water becomes chop with short small waves (0.5-1m), ideal for freeride or wakestyle.
