Le Trez-Hir

Trez Hir beach, located in Plougonvelin in Finistère, stretches 1.2 km in the bay of Bertheaume, facing the Crozon peninsula. It is a well-sheltered spot from the Brest harbor, with a wide sandy right side where the nautical center is well equipped. The left side offers quiet coves interspersed with rocks, ideal for strolling along the shore.

The spot is appreciated by riders of all levels for its protected water and easy access to nearby shops and restaurants. Windsurfing and sailing are also practiced here, in a friendly atmosphere animated by local schools.

The beach is oriented east, which protects it from the prevailing south-west winds, and it remains preserved with its dunes and natural spaces.

Location

Detailed information

The spot works well with a southeast sector wind, which comes side-on relative to the east-oriented beach, offering a regular water surface protected from west swells by the Brest harbor. The launch area is easily accessible on the wide sandy right side, near the nautical center, with a clear take-off zone on the fine sand. The navigation area extends offshore in the bay, without major obstacles, but one must remain vigilant of rocky areas on the sides.

Depending on the tides, the water surface goes from flat to light chop at high tide, ideal for beginners, while at low tide it can become more technical with exposed sand. The best sessions occur mid-tide for optimal space. Locals prefer afternoon thermal winds in summer, and the spot is perfect for schools with its shallow water near the shore.

Local feature: the fort of Bertheaume to the north marks the limit, and the proximity of the Crozon peninsula creates a constant wind effect in the right directions. Avoid days of high tide coefficients where currents intensify near the rocky points.
