La Tranche-sur-Mer
The Clémenceau beach, south of La Tranche-sur-Mer, is a long sandy beach typical of the Vendée coastline. It is somewhat away from the busiest areas, with less direct access than the central beaches.
The spot attracts some water sports enthusiasts, particularly for surfing and kiting when conditions are right. The atmosphere is more tranquil than on the main spots of the resort, with a beach classified as quite wild and areas where one quickly feels offshore.

Location
Detailed information
The beach is generally oriented west/southwest, facing offshore, with a very open coastline. Winds from the W to SW come in rather side-on to onshore, which offers reasonable safety conditions but can sometimes make the water surface a bit messy. In NW wind, it remains close to side-on, with a swell well exposed to the west swell of the Atlantic.
The water surface changes significantly with the tide. At low tide, the beach reveals a large area and one finds a large zone of wet sand before reaching the water, which can complicate launching with equipment. At mid-tide and high tide, there is a more pronounced shorebreak and a water surface formed by the waves, typical of the Vendée coast. There is no real flat area: one mainly navigates in chop and waves.
Launching is done directly from the beach, but the useful sandy area for launching a kite is not vast during high tide, especially with the retreat of the dunes. This is not the most practical spot in the municipality for setting up a kite: several sources indicate that the Clémenceau / Maison Clémenceau area is not well suited for kitesurfing compared to more open beaches like Terrière or Phare. Clémenceau beach is nonetheless referenced with a kitesurf zone, indicating that the practice is tolerated, but it remains more frequented by surfers and bathers.
In practice, riders use this area more for surfing or paddleboarding, and prefer the main kitesurfing spots of La Tranche-sur-Mer (notably Phare beach) where the zones are clearly organized and more suitable. Kiting at Clémenceau therefore requires being autonomous, comfortable in the waves, and able to manage an open water surface, without markers or specific channels for kiting.
