Plage des Sableaux
France · Pays de la Loire
The Sableaux beach, on the island of Noirmoutier in Pays de la Loire, is a popular spot for riders due to its flat water at low tide and its freeride atmosphere. Located near Fort Larron, it offers a large expanse of fine sand ideal for setting up the kite. It is frequented by locals off-season, with a steady wind that attracts up to 30 kites per day in northeast wind.
The spot works well for all levels, especially beginners, thanks to its sandy bottom and shallow depth. However, be aware of the summer prohibition period that limits sessions to the cooler months. The environment mixes ocean and marsh, with a nice view of the oyster parks in the distance.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The Sableaux spot is optimal with northeast to southeast wind, which comes in side-shore from the right of the beach, making it easy to launch and the water surface stable. At low tide, about 2 hours before and after, the water is perfectly flat over a large area, ideal for freeride, freestyle, or the first runs of beginners, with easy footing on a sandy bottom up to a hundred meters from the shore. The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, but stay in the center to avoid the oyster parks to the south about 900 meters and the partially covered stakes to the right of the beach.
Launching is done directly from the fine sand, with a dedicated area to the right of the main access to the bridge for safely taking off the kite. At high tide, the water remains navigable with always space to set up, although it is less ideal with high tide coefficients where the space decreases. In west wind, small waves form on the left, but the spot loses constant gliding. Avoid boat moorings in summer and respect the 2 hours around low tide for long and safe sessions.
