Crozon

The Palue beach, located at the end of the Crozon peninsula in Brittany, is a wild beach facing directly west to the Atlantic Ocean. It is a renowned spot for surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing, set in a beautiful backdrop within the Armorique regional natural park.

Gliding enthusiasts gather here for sessions on varied waves, peaks, and sandbars that offer rights and lefts. Access is a bit sporty via a rugged path, but once there, you enjoy a wide open space ideal for experienced riders.

Less known than some spots like La Torche, Palue remains a Breton gem for versatile watermen who love to combine surfing and kiting.

Location

Detailed information

Palue beach is oriented directly west, making it perfect for winds from the W to WNW in side-on or side-shore from the sea, generating choppy water with waves. The best winds are from the east to flatten the water, but strong west winds work well for kiting when the swell is moderate. Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, with a wide take-off area in the center to avoid surf peaks at the ends.

Depending on the tides, at high tide the water is deeper and powerful waves form near the point, while at low tide the sandbars emerge and create shallower areas to watch out for. The main navigation area is offshore from the central beach, staying away from the dangerous south and rocks. Kiting sessions are mainly practiced when surfers are not too numerous, typically at the end of the day or with side-off wind.

Local peculiarity: the spot is wild, without infrastructure, so bring all your gear and a 4x4 for access. In winter, conditions are more radical with consistent swell, perfect for strapless or wave riding.
