Crozon

The Goulien beach, located at the end of the Dinan cove on the Crozon peninsula, is a long stretch of fine sand bordered by dunes and cliffs. It is a major spot for kitesurfing, surfing, and windsurfing, appreciated by locals and families for its easy access and wild atmosphere.

Close to the village of Kersiguenou, it offers a splendid panorama of the Dinan point and the Tas de Pois. There is a surf school and a campsite nearby, but the beach remains spacious even in summer.

Exposed directly west, it attracts riders all year round, especially in winter for more intense sessions.

Location

Detailed information

The Goulien beach is oriented west to southwest, making it ideal for winds from the W and SW sectors in side-on or side-shore, perfect for kiting. Launching is done directly on the wide 900-meter beach, with easy access to the water on sand without dangerous rip currents. The navigation area extends across the entire bay, but stay offshore to avoid the shorebreak at high tide.

With NW wind, it is more onshore, with a choppy water surface that quickly becomes large if there is west swell. On the best days, there is a freestyle area in the center and waves on the sides for wavers. Be cautious in summer with the crowd: navigate carefully towards the south near Kersiguenou.

The spot works well at all tides, but prefer mid-tide for a smoother water surface and less shorebreak. No major channel, but the current can accelerate with the swell. Backup spot in rough weather thanks to the first break offshore that offers some protection.

Risks & Safety

  • Beware of the violent shorebreak at high tide, which can throw the kite onto the sand.

  • Avoid the area near the north and south cliffs where rocks are exposed at low tide.

  • Stay vigilant with the crowd in summer and surfers on the wave peaks.

  • The current intensifies with strong swell; do not go alone if you are a novice.
