Informations utiles
Carro is a reef break exposed to southeast swell. The spot does not have a traditional sandy beach, but rather a rocky platform that extends about 400 meters from the shore. Launching and landing the kite are delicate operations due to the presence of rocks and a gnarly shorebreak. The kitesurfing area is marked by buoys to allow better cohabitation with other water activities such as windsurfing.
The dominant wind is the mistral, particularly active in winter and early spring, creating side-shore to side-on conditions depending on the day. In summer, access to the spot is regulated. A notable current is present, especially due to the configuration of the rocky headland. A buoy marks the entrance to the port and serves as a good landmark for navigating offshore. Waves can reach up to 2 meters on good days, with very tight swell due to the abrasive rocky bottom.
The ideal conditions at Carro are provided by the mistral blowing from the northwest, particularly in winter and early spring. A wind of 15 to 25 knots creates the best conditions for kitesurfing. A southeast-oriented swell combined with a steady mistral wind offers the most epic sessions. The best days are those when the wind is consistent and the swell is well-formed, which happens regularly during the winter season.
The water surface at Carro is characterized by fast and steep waves generated by the swell hitting the rocky platform. Conditions are very technical due to the abrasive rocky bottom and craters that create very tight swell. The spot offers true wave riding with waves reaching up to 2 meters on good days. Conditions can become very hollow and well-formed when all parameters align. It is a wave spot on the Côte d'Azur, highly appreciated by riders seeking thrills.
The current at Carro is notable and must be taken into account when sailing. The configuration of the rocky headland and the proximity of the port area create currents that can be marked, particularly near the entrance channel of the port. Riders must stay vigilant and be well acquainted with visual landmarks, especially the buoy marking the port entrance. Mediterranean tides are generally low at Carro, with limited amplitude.
The recommended kite sizes at Carro depend on the wind conditions. With the regular mistral, riders typically use kites of 12 to 17 square meters for standard sessions. In windier conditions, kites of 9 to 12 square meters are preferable. For calmer days, kites of 14 to 17 square meters allow for maintaining good power. The choice depends on your weight, level, and the conditions of the day.
The dominant wind regime is the mistral, a powerful and steady wind that mainly blows in winter and early spring. This northwesterly wind creates ideal conditions for kitesurfing. In summer, the winds are weaker and less consistent, but the spot can still offer good sessions. The mistral is known for its strength and consistency, which is why Carro has become a reference spot for sliding sports.
Carro enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate of Provence. Winters are mild but windy, while summers are hot and generally calmer in terms of wind. The spot works well year-round, with particularly intense activity in winter and early spring when the mistral blows regularly. Conditions are more variable in summer, but the spot remains accessible to advanced riders.
