Conditions de navigation

The spot of Playa La Playita benefits from a dominant side-shore wind from NE to E, typical of trade winds, which picks up around 1 PM and rises to 15-20 knots in the afternoon. The northeast orientation of the beach allows for a flat water surface protected by coral reefs on both sides, ideal for freestyle or learning. The launch is directly from the sandy beach, with a wide and obstacle-free take-off area.

The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, where you can stand for a long time due to the shallow depth. At high tide, the spot gains depth and comfort, while at low tide, it remains navigable but requires more technique near the shore. No shorebreak or waves, just smooth water perfect for beginners and foiling. Schools like KiteSurf Las Terrenas or Buen Hombre manage the spot, with rentals on-site and downwinds possible to other beaches.

Be cautious of inaccurate Windguru forecasts here; the schools have their own station. The spot is not crowded, max 20 kites in high season, and no sargassum.

Vent ideal
NEdominant
N
NW

The ideal conditions are a side-shore NE 15-20 knots wind in the afternoon, with flat water and high tide for more depth.

État de la mer

The water is crystal clear and flat, with no waves thanks to the protection of the reefs. Mixed bottom of sand, coral, and seaweed, shallow with standing depth up to 50-100m from the shore depending on the tide.

Courants marins

Taille de kite recommandée

Opt for sizes 12m on average, 9m in the late afternoon when it picks up, or 14m in winter with light wind.

Météo & vent

The trade winds NE to E are consistent at 10 to 20 knots, strengthening in the afternoon due to thermals. The best months are February, March, June, July, with reliable sessions starting from noon. Less strong than in Cabarete, but more consistent for learning.

Climat

The tropical climate of Las Terrenas offers constant temperatures around 25-30°C all year round, with always warm water. The trade wind season from December to September brings the best wind, particularly January-March and May-August. Little rain during the dry season, ideal for long sessions.

Profondeur

The depth is gradual and shallow, standing depth up to 50-100m from the shore on a sandy bottom mixed with coral. Safer at high tide.

Température de l’eau

The water remains warm at 26-29°C all year round, with no need for a wetsuit. Slightly cooler during the dry season at 26°C.
