Informations utiles
The Skiveren Strand spot works well with winds from SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW, and NNW, which are side-shore or side-on relative to the north-facing beach. These directions bring a flat and shallow water surface knee-deep for a long distance, perfect for tricks and advanced training.
The launch area is wide on the sandy beach, with plenty of space to take off safely. Navigation takes place in the adjacent fjord, where the water remains shallow even offshore, without dependence on tides. In SW wind, it is recommended when neighboring spots like Kjul or Tversted are too gusty.
Local feature: frontal wind related to depressions, stronger in autumn and spring, lighter in summer. Offshore possible but beware of drifting to the other side of the fjord in case of trouble.
Ideal conditions are with a side-shore wind from W to NW between 15 and 25 knots, for a flat and manageable water surface. Variable strength possible due to depressions.
The water is flat and shallow most of the time, with chop or small to medium waves depending on wind strength. Limited shore break, sandy bottom everywhere.
Currents are generally weak in the fjord, with no tides influencing navigation conditions. No major channel reported, but caution is advised in case of offshore wind to avoid drifting.
For typical winds in the region, plan for sizes of 9 to 12 m² on average, smaller like 7-9 m² in strong autumn sessions, and larger 11-14 m² in light summer.
The wind regime is frontal, depending on Atlantic depressions, with variable strengths throughout the year. The best winds come from the South-West to North-West, stronger in autumn and spring, lighter in summer. Gusts are possible, especially on exposed coasts.
The main season runs from April to November, with spring air temperatures between 10-20°C, up to 30°C in summer and 10-16°C in autumn. A wetsuit is always necessary, even off-season when it is very cold.
The depth is very gradual with a sandy bottom, knee-deep water extending a long distance from the shore. Ideal for riding without the risk of hitting.
Water temperatures in spring range from 8-13°C, 18-23°C in summer, and 8-14°C in autumn. Thick wetsuit required off-season.
