Langeland - Ristinge Hale
Denmark
Langeland
Ristinge Hale, on the west coast of Langeland in southern Denmark, is a dream spot for kitesurfing in flatwater. The pebble beach is narrow, with easy access via a small parking lot at the end of the road. It is a quiet place surrounded by nature, perfect for peaceful sessions.
The spot is in a nature reserve rich in birds, which imposes seasonal restrictions. Kitesurfing is only allowed from June 1 to August 31, and the northern area towards Storeholm should be avoided, closed from March to July. Public toilets are available near the parking lot, and a small kiosk is located at the Ristinge campsite.
Locals appreciate this spot for its flat water and relative safety, despite a few specifics to be aware of.

The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
- 🟢 10–16 kts: light but sailable wind (especially on foil).
- 🟡 16–22 kts: ideal range, comfortable conditions for most.
- 🔴 22–28 kts: strong wind, reserved for experienced riders.
- 🟣 28+ kts: extreme conditions, committed riding.

Useful information
The spot works well with winds from all directions except southeast. West winds are offshore, but the lagoon offers a perfect flatwater protected by the land tongue that ensures good safety. In east wind, the water in the lagoon becomes a bit choppy, but remains navigable. The ideal launch area is on the small beach near the parking lot or in the dedicated zone, where space is limited but sufficient for takeoff.
The navigation area is mainly the adjacent lagoon, with a generally flat water surface, ideal for freestyle or freeride. Be cautious of the zone limits to respect the nature reserve. Tides have little influence on the spot, but always check local coefficients. In westerly winds, small waves form on the outer beach for wave riding, making the spot versatile.
Free and close parking, but arrive early in the season for a spot. Takeoff is easy on sand, with no major obstacles except for a few wooden posts.
Ideal conditions are winds from west to northwest at 10-20 knots, offshore with secure flatwater. Side-shore from the east also works for fun chop, but less pure.
The water is generally flat in the lagoon, perfect for clean jibes and gear. On the open beach, light chop to small waves in side-on wind. Sandy bottom with some rocks near the shore, generally visible.
Currents are weak in the lagoon, thanks to its natural protection. Tides are moderate in the southern Denmark region, with low amplitudes that do not significantly impact navigation. Stay in the lagoon area to minimize any risk.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in moderate winds in the area. 7-9 m² for stronger days, and 11-13 m² in light winds.
The prevailing winds come from the west and northwest, offshore and steady, with typical strengths of 8-15 knots in season. There is no specific local name, but the pattern is reliable due to Langeland's exposed position in the Great Belt strait. Forecasts often show south to southeast in winter, but avoid southeast for this spot.
The climate is temperate oceanic, with spring temperatures around 10-20°C from April to June, and up to 30°C in summer. Winter is cool but manageable on windy days, although the optimal season extends from April to November. Precipitation is moderate, and the best months for kitesurfing include January to July and September to December.
The depth is gradual with a predominantly sandy bottom. You can stand for a long time in the lagoon, ideal for restarts.
Water temperatures range from 5-10°C in winter-spring to 18-22°C in summer. A 5/4 mm wetsuit is recommended outside the summer season.
