Stokken
Denmark · North Denmark Region
Stokken, about 4 km southwest of the port of Vesterø on the island of Læsø in North Denmark Region, is a kitesurfing spot popular with local riders and visitors. This narrow channel, 2 km long and 100-150 m wide, offers an ideal setting with its ultra-flat and shallow water.
The island of Læsø is a true Mecca for kitesurfers, and Stokken is particularly attractive during south to west winds. It is a perfect place for long sessions, with excellent launch and landing conditions, and even jump records have been set here.
The spot is accessible to all levels from a reasonable control of the kite, and it buzzes with activity during the annual Kite Camp in week 39.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The Stokken spot works best with south to west winds, which become side-on to side-shore relative to the northeast/southwest oriented channel, providing stable and powerful wind without turbulence. The water is ultra-flat (0-150 cm) over the majority of the 2 km long channel, with knee to mid-thigh areas ideal for freestyle and long runs that can reach several kilometers.
Launching is easy on the sandy edges of the channel, with launch and landing conditions among the best due to the open space and absence of rocks. The main navigation area is the channel itself, 100-150 m wide, flanked by shallow lakes at the ends; avoid the deeper areas visible in clear water.
No major impact from tides on the water surface which remains shallow year-round, but onshore winds from the southwest create possible jumps. It’s perfect for endless runs and height records, like the 21.9 m jumped in 2021.
