Informations utiles
Krik Vig offers a very flat and shallow water surface, ideal for learning and technical progress. The optimal wind comes from the southwest to west (SW, WSW, W), creating very stable side-shore to side-on conditions. The directions south to south-southwest (S, SSW, SSE) also work well.
Launching is done directly from the small grassy area. The water remains shallow over a large distance, allowing for safe navigation even with little experience. However, be cautious: houses and roads are close to the launch area, so be vigilant during take-offs and landings. The spot may present small waves or chop depending on the wind direction, but is generally very flat.
The ideal conditions occur with a wind of 12 to 15 knots minimum coming from the southwest to west (SW, WSW, W). These directions create a perfect side-shore and allow for smooth and safe navigation. The directions south to south-southwest (S, SSW, SSE) also work very well. A wind of 15 to 20 knots offers the best conditions for technical progression.
The water surface is very flat under normal conditions, with sometimes light chop depending on the wind direction and strength. The water remains calm and predictable, making it an excellent spot for technical progression. Conditions remain stable throughout the day, without significant variations related to tides.
The Limfjord where Krik Vig is located is a shallow fjord with generally weak to moderate currents. Tides influence the water level but do not create dangerous currents. One must remain vigilant near the channels where the current can be stronger, but overall the spot offers safe conditions for navigation.
With an average wind of 15 knots, the recommended sizes range between 9 and 11 meters for most riders. For windier days (18-20 knots), a kite of 7 to 9 meters will be more appropriate. For calmer days (12-14 knots), a kite of 11 to 13 meters will keep you active.
The wind regime at Krik Vig is very regular and predictable. The prevailing winds come from the west to southwest, particularly strong in autumn and winter. Spring and summer see more variable winds but are always present. Side-shore to side-on conditions are common, making the spot accessible even for progressing riders.
The climate of North Jutland is typically oceanic temperate. Winters are cold and humid, while summers are mild. The region benefits from a good exposure to Atlantic depression systems, ensuring regular wind activity throughout the year.
The water of the Limfjord is very cold in winter, with temperatures around 2 to 4°C from December to February. Spring sees a gradual rise to 8 to 12°C in April-May. Summer offers the best conditions with temperatures of 15 to 18°C in July-August. Autumn gradually cools the water to 10 to 12°C in September-October. A 5/3mm wetsuit is recommended year-round, or even 6/5mm in winter.
