Informations utiles
The spot of Klitmøller Strand is oriented to the northwest, perfect for a side-on or side-shore prevailing wind from W to NW, which sends clean and powerful waves. With south winds like SSW or SW, it becomes more offshore, ideal for riding the medium waves of the reef break at the point, but watch out for seaweed and the strengthening current.
Launching takes place on a medium-sized beach with lots of pebbles and shells, shoes are mandatory to avoid cuts. The launch area is decent but can be crowded on good days; stay vigilant for concrete obstacles around. On the water, head east with SW for smoother areas between the waves, or stay close to the shore for beginners in flatwater towards Nørre Vorupør.
Tides have little influence on the main water body, but at low tide, the Klitmøller Reef exposes stones and mussels, making navigation technical. At high tide, waves rise up to 2-4m in NW swell, perfect for advanced wave riders.
Ideal in W-NW for clean side-on waves, or SSW-SW offshore according to locals. Wind strength 15-25 kts for optimal sessions.
Water conditions with medium waves and powerful swells up to 2-4m in NW swell, smooth between the waves. A mix of sand, pebbles, shells, and seaweed; rocks on the reef to watch out for.
Currents are present especially with south winds (SSW-SW), more pronounced near the reef. Beware of strong currents from the south, which can be surprising; however, they remain manageable.
Opt for sizes 7-11m² depending on wind 15-30 kts; 9-11m for light days, 7-9m in gusts for wave.
The wind regime is constant, dominated by W and NW at 15-30 kts on average, thanks to exposure to the North Sea. No specific local name, but it’s reliable year-round for wave or freestyle.
The climate is cold oceanic, with temperatures 10-20°C from March to November, the main season. Summer remains cool, around 15-17°C in the air, and winter requires a thick wetsuit even though the wind persists.
The best months are variable, but spring and autumn offer the most sessions with an average wind score around 50/100.
Progressive depth with a mixed sand-pebble bottom; very shallow on the reef (less than 1m at low tide) with stones and mussels.
Low temperatures year-round, 12-17°C even in summer; 5/4mm wetsuit required most of the time.
