Conditions de navigation

The Hou Strand spot works well with onshore or side-shore winds from the northwest or west, typical of Atlantic depressions. The beach faces northwest, so onshore winds from the southwest create chop and small waves ideal for jumping, while side-on winds from the northwest offer a smoother water surface.

The sailing area is wide and long, with a sandy launch and some pebbles or shells to watch for, but nothing serious. The take-off area is medium-sized, narrow but very long and little used, with dunes to place the gear. No tidal influence, consistent conditions throughout the day.

Further out, sandbanks create a knee-deep area for advanced freestyle, and waves for carving beyond. Be cautious of narrow areas near the shore for launching.

Vent ideal
S
SE
E
NE

The ideal conditions are winds of 15-25 knots from northwest side-shore for a mix of chop and small waves, or west for freestyle on flat water.

État de la mer

The water surface is choppy with small waves, especially with west or northwest winds. Close to the shore, it is knee-deep at low tide, perfect for training, and more wavy offshore on the sandbanks.

Courants marins

Currents are generally weak in the bay, with no major channel to report. Tides do not influence the sailing conditions.

Taille de kite recommandée

Prefer kite sizes of 9 to 12 m² for typical winds of 15-25 knots, and larger in light summer or smaller for powerful autumn sessions.

Météo & vent

The winds are onshore, brought by depressions, stable and of variable strength, from light in summer to 15-30 knots in spring and autumn. The dominant directions are northwest and west, with sessions possible year-round but lighter in summer.

Climat

The Danish climate is cool and windy, with mild summer temperatures around 15-20°C and cold winters dropping below 0°C. The main season runs from March to October, but winter off-season is possible with suitable gear.

The best months for kitesurfing are March, April, May, September, October, and November, with more stable winds.

Profondeur

The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom. You can stand up to the sandbanks, knee-deep even at low tide near the spot.

Température de l’eau

The water remains cool, rarely above 21°C in summer and can freeze in winter. A wetsuit is always necessary, thicker off-season.
