Informations utiles
The Ebeltoft Strand spot works well with a SW wind, which becomes onshore as the bay curves more to the north. For W or NW winds, it's perfect side-on, stable and powerful. The riding area is wide and shallow, with a water surface flat to chop and small waves in strong wind. The launch is directly on the sandy beach, with no major obstacles, and the takeoff area is medium-sized, well exposed. Be cautious of gusts in typical Danish onshore wind, which can make sessions technical. Tides have little impact here, but always check forecasts for frequent rainy days that chop the water surface. The best areas are in the center of the bay to avoid crowded edges.
Ideal conditions are a side-on wind from W to NW at 15-25 knots, stable without too many gusts. Avoid pure onshore SW which is too gusty.
The water surface is generally flat and shallow, evolving to chop with the wind and small waves in strong conditions. The long sandy bay ensures a safe space to maneuver.
Currents are weak in Ebeltoft Bay, thanks to its sheltered configuration. Tides have little influence on the spot, but a slight flow can be felt near the adjacent port areas.
Opt for sizes of 9 to 12 m² in typical conditions, going down to 7-9 m² for strong days, and 11-14 m² when it's light.
The wind regime is onshore, typical of the Danish lowlands, with dominant directions of SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW. Winds are steady but often accompanied by rain and gusts, making sessions demanding for intermediates and above. Strengths vary from moderate to strong, ideal for freeride or light wave.
The main season runs from April to November, with spring air temperatures between 10-20°C, up to 30°C in summer and 10-16°C in autumn. A wetsuit is always necessary, even in season. Off-season, it gets very cold, requiring thick neoprene, a mask, shoes, and gloves.
The depth is gradual and shallow (knees to chest near the shore), with a completely sandy bottom. You can stand for a good distance, perfect for training.
The water is 8-13°C in spring, 18-23°C in summer, and 8-14°C in autumn. A minimum of 5/4 mm neoprene is required year-round.
