Sydvestpynten
Danemark · Capital Region of Denmark
Sydvestpynten is a flat and accessible spot located near Copenhagen, on the island of Amager. It is one of the most popular places among locals and kite schools for its shallow water and vast sailing space. There is a small beach to set up gear, with a grassy area for assembly and generous parking.
The spot is perfect for quiet sessions during the week, but it can quickly become lively on good wind days, with dozens of riders. A small lagoon sometimes separates the parking from the beach, which can be crossed on foot or by following the path. Access is easy, about twenty minutes from the city center.
Close to the airport and amenities, it is a practical choice for travelers who want to ride without going far.
Historical averages by month — not a live forecast.
The spot works well with winds from S, SSW, SW, WSW, and W, which are generally side-shore or side-on relative to the southwest-facing beach, providing good pull without too much drift. The water is very flat most of the time, ideal for jibes and freestyle, with a bit of chop when there is traffic. The launch is on a wide sandy beach, with easy takeoff thanks to a dedicated metal stake.
The sailing area is vast, you can go far without problems, but stay clear of the rocks marked by buoys. No major influence from tides, the spot works at all hours. In case of northeast offshore wind, which is rare but happens, prefer another spot. Beginners love the gradual depth up to the knees for several hundred meters.
