Playa Varadero (Cuatro Palmas) is a kitesurfing spot located on the long peninsula of Varadero, in Matanzas, Cuba. This fine white sand beach stretches for miles, with clear turquoise water ideal for sailing. It is a popular place for kiters due to its generous space and easy access from nearby hotels.
The spot is located near the Cuatro Palmas area, where the beach remains relatively calm despite the proximity of resorts. Locals and schools like Ke Bola y offer sessions, taking advantage of a clean bottom without grass or corals. The atmosphere is relaxed, perfect for days of riding between sea and sand.
With its 25 km of beach, Varadero offers legendary downwinds to the end of the peninsula, far from the crowded areas of central hotels.

The wind generally arrives side-onshore from the east or northeast, perfect for riding along the north-south oriented beach. Near Cuatro Palmas, the launch is easy on the soft sand, with a large take-off area even in onshore conditions. The riding area extends for miles in shallow water at the shore, ideal for freestyle and freeride, before becoming more choppy offshore.
By choosing the ends like near the Barcelo Marina Palace, you find superb flat water sections towards the nearby small islands, or you can go downwind for 25 km to the end of the peninsula. Avoid launches in front of crowded hotels in high season; opt for quieter beaches like Marina Palace Beach where space is sufficient even with crowds. Local directions (N, NNE, NE, W, WNW, NW, NNW) are partially confirmed: NE is ideal and dominant, but west winds are rarer and side-off, less stable according to sources.
The water plan varies little with tides, remaining navigable; expect flat to chop near the shore, with small waves (1-2.5 m) in strong winds. Daily sessions are possible in the dry season thanks to the constant trade winds.
