Nin
The beach of Plaža Ždrijac, on the Nin Gulf side in Zadar County, Croatia, is a long stretch of fine sand that protects the Nin lagoon. It is a popular spot for kitesurfers due to its shallow waters and windy microclimate. Close to the historic town of Nin, it attracts both beginners and experienced riders.
The kite center and school are located in the middle of the beach, at the Surfmania pavilion, making access easy for lessons and freeride sessions. The proximity of bars, restaurants, and apartments makes the spot convenient for an extended stay. In summer, the atmosphere is lively with many people, but the long beach allows for finding space.
Croatian and Slovenian kitesurfing records have been set here, and the spot regularly hosts international regattas, confirming its status among the best in the Adriatic.

Informations utiles
The beach of Plaža Ždrijac offers a flat water surface in the lagoon on the gulf side, perfect for freeride and freestyle, with a transition to chop in open sea on the other side. Launching and takeoff are ideally done at the center of the beach, where the dedicated kite zone is located, to avoid the crowd. The waters are shallow up to several hundred meters, ideal for beginners who stay close to the shore.
Side-on or side-shore winds dominate from the N-NE (bora) or SW-W-NW (mistral), creating stable conditions in the lagoon. In case of strong wind, chop increases on the sea side, suitable for intermediates. It is important to respect the safety zones: the red zone prohibited to bathers near the shore, and to stay at a distance from the beach for kiting. The spot is crowded in high season, so arrive early to secure a launch space.
The best sessions occur with winds 15-25 knots from N, NNE, SW, WSW, W, WNW, NW, or NNW, confirmed by locals and sources. The side-on mistral offers the best balance for all levels.
The water surface is flat and crystal clear in the lagoon, with a sandy bottom ideal for gliding. On the gulf side, it remains calm even in moderate wind; at sea, it becomes choppy with light waves during strong mistral.
Currents are generally weak in the lagoon, making the spot safe for beginners. However, be cautious of stronger currents near the channels or when passing into open sea.
Opt for sizes 9 to 11m² in light to moderate wind in the lagoon; drop to 7-9m² when the mistral or bora pushes above 20 knots in chop.
The main wind is the mistral (maestral), a thermal from the NW at 15-25 knots, reliable from May to October, enhanced by the lagoon's microclimate. The bora from the N-NE brings intense sessions in autumn-spring. Today, a wind at 24.2 kts with a score of 45/100 indicates average conditions.
The Mediterranean climate of Nin is mild, with warm temperatures of 25-30°C in summer from May to September, the ideal high season. The spring and autumn months are cooler but windy for experts. Mild winters contrast with weather data mentioning February and November as the best months, although the main season remains April-October.
The depth is gradual and shallow, with feet up to 50-100m from the shore on a clean sandy bottom, perfect for falls without risk.
Water temperatures range from 14-16°C in spring/autumn to 22-25°C in summer from July to September.
