Barbados
Barbade
The beach of Silver Sands Beach, located in Christ Church on the southeast coast of Barbados, is a long stretch of white coral sand favored by kitesurfers. It is an iconic spot with its constant trade winds and the powerful Atlantic waves crashing on the nearby reefs. There is a friendly atmosphere around Brian Talma's center, a local champion who offers rentals and advice.
Close to Silver Rock Beach, this place attracts riders for its wave and freestyle sessions in an authentic tropical setting. The beach is wide, with grassy areas to relax and freshwater showers after the session. Kite schools like De Action or Endless Kiteboarding are established here, ideal for progression.
The spot is lively during the season, with locals and visitors sharing the waves. It is a reliable place year-round, except during the peak calm season of the trade winds.

Informations utiles
The prevailing winds come from the east/northeast, blowing cross-shore or slightly side-onshore on the southeast-facing beach, providing ideal power for waves and freestyle. The wind picks up late morning and peaks in the afternoon with 15-25 knots during the high season from November to April. The riding area extends along the 2 km beach, with easy launching on the wide sand and direct water entry from the beach, but beware of the shorebreak which can be strong with the swell.
The water surface is choppy with medium waves of 1-3 m, larger in winter up to 4 m on the outer reef; intermediates and advanced riders enjoy the inside areas for freeride and wakestyle. Favor winds at 100-110° for a perfect side-on angle at adjacent Silver Rock. Downwinders to Long Beach are nice but reserved for experienced riders due to rocks and gusts. The spot is independent of tides, but the winter swell makes the edge more technical.
Ideal conditions are side-on winds of 100-110° (east-southeast) at 15-25 knots, with north or northeast swell for clean waves on the reef.
The water is crystal clear with a choppy and medium wave surface, long and rideable. The Atlantic swell creates solid wave conditions, cleaner on the reef, ideal for jumping and riding.
The currents are strong, especially near the beach and reefs with the Atlantic swell. Beware of powerful rip currents that can quickly pull you offshore. Tides have little overall impact but influence the shorebreak locally.
Opt for kite sizes of 9 to 12 m² in moderate winds, or 7-9 m² when it’s blowing hard to control in the waves.
The northeast trade winds dominate, with consistent winds from east to northeast year-round except July-September when they weaken. The pattern is reliable, strengthening in the afternoon, perfect for regular sessions at this ocean spot.
The climate is tropical with warm temperatures year-round, around 25-30°C on average. The high season from November to April is dry and windy, while June to October sees more calm and risks of showers or hurricanes. Wear boardshorts as it is always warm.
The depth drops quickly beyond the sandy edge, with a shallow reef outside. Sandy bottom near the beach, then coral and rocky.
The water remains warm at 26-29°C year-round, with no need for a wetsuit in boardshorts.
