Conditions de navigation

Riumar offers side-shore to side-on conditions when the wind comes from the northwest, which is the dominant direction of the spot. The water surface is very shallow and accessible on foot in most of the area, making launching and landing particularly easy. The navigation area extends widely in front of the beach with a gradual sandy bottom.

The wind presents some instability with gusts: it can shift from 6 Beaufort to 5 Beaufort in cycles of about 10 minutes. This feature requires some adaptation but remains manageable. The wind generally drops after 1 PM, so it is recommended to navigate in the morning to enjoy the best conditions. The area is little frequented by bathers outside the summer season, which facilitates practice.

Ndominant

Ideal conditions at Riumar occur with a northwest wind between 10 and 15 knots, which offers a good balance between power and control. These conditions allow for smooth and safe navigation for all levels. The spring Mistral (March to May) regularly provides these optimal conditions. Mornings are preferable to afternoons to benefit from a more stable and stronger wind.

État de la mer

The water surface at Riumar is characterized by a generally flat to slightly choppy surface. Small waves mainly appear when the wind comes from the northwest, but they remain moderate. The water is very shallow, creating a stable and predictable water surface, ideal for progressing and mastering technique. The sandy bottom contributes to the softness of the conditions.

Courants marins

The currents at Riumar are generally weak, making the spot accessible even for less experienced riders. However, care should be taken near the Ebro channel where the current can be stronger. Tide conditions do not significantly affect kitesurfing conditions at this spot, allowing for navigation at any time of the day depending on the wind.

Taille de kite recommandée

The recommended kite sizes at Riumar vary according to seasonal conditions and the rider's weight. For average conditions with a wind of 10-15 knots, a kite of 12 to 14 m² is ideal for most riders. In case of lighter wind (7-10 knots), a kite of 15 to 17 m² helps maintain power. For windier days (15-20 knots), a kite of 9 to 11 m² offers better control.

Météo & vent

The dominant wind regime at Riumar is the Mistral, a northwest wind that blows particularly between late March and May. This regular and predictable wind creates ideal conditions for kitesurfing. Speeds generally vary between 7 and 17 knots, with gusts reaching up to 20 knots. Southwest winds are also present but less dominant. Conditions are good practically all year round, although spring months offer the best consistency.

Climat

The climate in Riumar is typically Mediterranean with marked seasonal variations. In summer, temperatures regularly exceed 30°C while in winter, they average around 15°C. The winter and spring months offer the best wind conditions, particularly between November and April.

Profondeur

The Riumar spot is characterized by a very gradual and shallow depth. You can stand in most of the navigation area, making launches and landings extremely easy and safe. The bottom is sandy, providing good traction and a soft surface in case of falls. This feature makes Riumar particularly suitable for beginners and those progressing.

Température de l’eau

In summer, the water is warm and no wetsuit is necessary. In early November, a 4 mm wetsuit becomes necessary due to the gradual cooling. In winter, a 5 mm wetsuit is recommended for comfortable navigation. Spring and autumn offer intermediate temperatures where a light 3 mm wetsuit may suffice depending on cold sensitivity.
