Amoudara

Amoudara is a beach located in the Gulf of Heraklion, on the northern coast of Crete, Greece. It is a beautiful kitesurfing spot for surfers of all levels, offering shallow waters, fine brown sand, and consistent winds. The beach is sandy and wide, with a large launch area between windsurfers and bathers, making it easy for riders to access.
The proximity to the airport and the city of Heraklion makes Amoudara a very accessible spot, ideal for kitesurfers passing through or on a layover. The spot operates from June to September, with classic onshore winds, and is particularly well-winded in summer thanks to the Meltemi, the dominant thermal wind in the region.

Amoudara is a beach oriented north, which fully receives the Meltemi (wind from NW to NNW). The wind conditions are onshore, meaning the wind comes from the sea towards the beach. The water state is mixed: it can be flat, choppy, or have small waves (about 1.5 m), depending on the tides and wind strength.
The launch is done on a large clear area between windsurfers and bathers, allowing for a safe takeoff. The spot is independent of tides, meaning that kitesurfing conditions are stable regardless of water height. The navigation areas are wide, with shallow waters near the shore, perfect for beginners.
