Seignosse

The Estagnots beach, located at the border between Hossegor and Seignosse in the Landes, is a popular spot for kitesurfing in the South-West. Between the Landes pines and the Atlantic Ocean, it offers a typical Landes setting with its fine sand and regular waves. It is a place appreciated by locals and schools for its friendly atmosphere and dedicated zones during the season.

From June to September, signs indicate a kitesurfing zone during supervised swimming hours, ensuring more safety. Facilities such as parking and kite schools, like Sud Landes Kite or Fun Kite Sud Ouest, make it easy for everyone to practice at all levels.

The spot is known for its thermal that rises in the afternoon, ideal for strapless sessions on nice waves.

Detaillierte Informationen

Estagnots beach is oriented facing west, which means that northwest winds come in side-on, perfect for kitesurfing, while west winds are a bit more onshore but still navigable. The thermal usually rises around 4 PM-5 PM, bringing a light wind between 10 and 18 knots, sometimes stronger up to 40 knots in September-October with west to southwest winds in the afternoon.

Launching is done directly from the sandy beach, easy even for beginners, but be careful of the powerful shore break at high tide. The launch area is in the dedicated part indicated by signs in summer, to be respected to avoid bathers. The navigation area extends for several hundred meters, with space for freeride and strapless, especially on the one-meter maximum rights.

The water state varies with the tides: at low tide, there are flatter water patches near the shore, ideal for progression, while at high tide, the waves form well but the shore break complicates launching. During big swells, stay cautious and navigate on the large patches that form at mid-rising or falling tide. Local schools like Fun Kite Sud Ouest advise checking the signs and daily conditions.
