The port of Hourtin, located on the Hourtin-Lachanau Lake in Gironde, is one of the best kitesurfing spots in the region for beginners and progression. This vast calm body of water, considered one of the largest freshwater lakes in France with its 5,700 hectares, stretches 18 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide, offering a safe space away from the Atlantic waves.
The kitesurfing area at the port is marked by yellow buoys and reserved for practitioners. It is a spot favored by local riders for its accessibility and regular conditions, with a gradual depth that allows standing almost everywhere, even more than 100 meters from the shore. The bottom is sandy and clean, without major obstacles.
