Ponta Sino
Cape Verde · Sal
Ponta Sino is located at the western end of Kite Beach, near Santa Maria on the island of Sal in Cape Verde. It is a popular spot for intermediates and advanced riders due to its medium-sized waves and consistent wind.
The beach offers a decent space for launching, with a typical Sal coastline setting of fine sand and turquoise waters. Locals and kite schools offer freestyle or jumping sessions in a lively yet relaxed atmosphere.
Just a few kilometers from the center of Santa Maria, it is easily accessible by car or on foot from Kite Beach, ideal for combining kiting and beach breaks.

The wind mainly blows cross-shore or cross-offshore from the northeast, thanks to the constant trade winds that make the spot reliable year-round, peaking from November to June. Launching takes place on a sandy beach, but be cautious of the steep section near the shallow reef that sometimes shows.
The navigation area extends between the breaking waves on the reef and flat areas ideal for freestyle and jumps. Depending on the tides, the water surface varies: more chop near the beach with occasional shorebreak at low tide, and cleaner mid-size waves offshore at high tide.
Launching is easy on the wide beach, but stay in the bay as beyond the point is the open ocean with a risk of drifting. Local schools like ION Club assist with downwinds to Santa Maria or Ponta Preta.
