Just a few kilometers from Lagoa da Conceição, Praia Mole is a whole different universe: a large ocean beach bordered by green hills, battered by waves and frequented by surfers for decades. It is one of the best kitesurfing spots in southern Brazil, with clean swells, consistent wind, and a spectacular panorama. The name "Mole" comes from the texture of the sand, soft and shifting, which gives the beach its unique relief. Here, kiting takes on another dimension: more sporty, more oceanic, more intense. On days of strong wind, local riders perform powerful loops and strapless surfing against a backdrop of cliffs and turquoise water.
The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
Dominant wind from east to southeast, side-on, between 16 and 25 knots. Choppy to wavy water, with regular waves of 1 to 2.5 m depending on the swell. At low tide, the shorebreak decreases, making it easier to launch. At high tide, the waves reform, more powerful and clean. The sandy bottom, absence of rocks, and width of the beach make navigation comfortable, but the power of the waves makes it a spot reserved for intermediate and advanced riders. It is an ideal spot for kitesurfing, big air, and powerful freeride sessions.
Wind from east to southeast, side-onshore, between 18 and 25 knots. Warm, laminar, and consistent wind.
Low tide: mild choppy, weak shorebreak. Medium tide: regular and spaced waves. High tide: powerful waves, perfect for kitesurfing. Very clean wave/choppy spot, suitable for thrill-seekers.
Moderate to strong current, depending on the tide and swell. Drift generally oriented north, to be monitored in case of weak wind.
Riders use kites ranging from 7 to 10 m². Lighter riders prefer 6–8 m², while heavier riders opt for 9–11 m². A single kite is often sufficient for the entire session.
The sky is often clear, sometimes veiled by sea mists, and the heat is mild, tempered by the offshore wind. At Praia Mole, the wind mainly comes from the east to southeast, blowing between 16 and 25 knots depending on the season. It gently picks up in the late morning, quickly accelerates due to thermal effects between 12 PM and 5 PM, then drops off towards sunset. The wind orientation is side-on, slightly oblique from the sea, making navigation safe and enjoyable even in strong winds. The local thermal breezes, generated by the temperature difference between the sea and the coastal hills, ensure a regular and clean flow almost every summer afternoon (from November to March). On days of strong swell, the wind often remains stable — ideal for committed kitesurfing. Even off-season, Atlantic depressions regularly bring powerful southeast winds, perfect for more intense sessions.
Same climate as the lagoon: humid subtropical, warm from November to March (27–33°C) and milder the rest of the year. The water remains pleasant year-round, even in the southern winter (21–25°C). Late afternoon sessions are stunning: the golden light illuminates the hills and the waves become translucent.
Between 0.5 and 2 meters, soft and homogeneous sandy bottom.
Between 22°C and 27°C depending on the season.
