Barra Grande
Barra Grande is a peaceful village located by an immense bay, about 400 km west of Fortaleza, in the state of Piauí. Long kept a secret, it is now recognized as one of the best kitesurfing spots in Brazil, but has managed to maintain a calm, friendly, and authentic atmosphere. Here, there are no large hotel complexes: charming wooden pousadas, open-air restaurants, and sandy streets lined with palm trees. The main spot, often called The Lagoon, is located at the northern end of the village, where a natural lagoon fills at high tide and forms a perfect flat water mirror, separated from the sea by a thin strip of sand. It is a mythical place, loved by freestylers as well as progressing riders, but also a starting point for spectacular downwinds to Macapá, Luís Correia, or Atins. Barra Grande is the gentleness of the Northeast, the steady wind of Brazil, and a unique surf & kite vibe.

Detaillierte Informationen
Barra Grande offers a perfect cocktail of comfort, performance, and beauty. In the main lagoon, the water is ultra-flat at high tide, with large navigable areas and little depth: ideal for freestyle, technical tricks, and beginner lessons. At low tide, some areas empty, but secondary pools form further south, allowing for riding almost all day. At sea, the large bay offers endless freeride, with gentle chop and small spaced waves. The side-onshore wind from east to southeast blows between 17 and 25 knots, warm, steady, and without gusts. The wide sandy beach, easy launches, and the natural safety of the wind make this spot a perfect playground for all levels. It is also one of the few places where beginners and pros share the same space without interfering: the lagoon for some, the open sea for others.
