The Platja del Trabucador, located in the Ebro Delta in Amposta, Catalonia, is a long wild beach lined with salt flats. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its shallow water and consistent north wind. There is a calm atmosphere with a beach bar for breaks.
Close to the natural lagoons near the river mouth, it offers varied areas for sailing. Locals appreciate this authentic spot, accessible by car with sandy parking. Even in winter, conditions remain decent for kiting.
Ideal for families due to its flat bottom, it also attracts beginners in kitesurfing and wingfoiling.

The spot works well with a north or northwest wind, which is side-on relative to the east-west oriented beach. In the adjacent lagoon, the water is absolutely flat, perfect for beginners and freestyle. In open sea, it becomes chop with strong wind, and there are small waves easy to ride on the Trabucador side.
Launching is done directly from the wide beach, with a clear launch area. The first 50 meters are shallow, you can stand everywhere for learners. Be careful to stay in marked areas to avoid lagoons and the river channel.
Close to Riumar, 15 km away, you can combine both for a mix of flat and waves. In summer, it fills up quickly with the heat, prefer the less crowded sides for a calm launch.
Ideal conditions are with a north to northwest wind of 15-25 knots, side-on for optimal water conditions. It also works with southwest or southeast thermal winds.
The water is flat and shallow in the lagoon, ideal for progression. In the sea, there is light chop with steady wind and small surfable waves. In strong wind, it gets a bit choppy but remains accessible.
The current is generally weak on the beach and in the lagoon. Near the mouth of the Ebro River, it can accelerate in the channel, which should be avoided by beginners. Tides have little influence on the spot, but check the timings for navigation.
Opt for sizes 7-11 m² in winter with strong north wind. In summer, go up to 9-12 m² for lighter sessions. Smaller kites work well from October to March.
The prevailing wind comes from the north and blows almost every day from mid-September to April, with speeds of 11-22 mph and gusts up to 29 mph. In summer, it is less frequent but still present. It is an winter spot par excellence, with consistent conditions.
The Mediterranean climate of the Ebro Delta is mild year-round, with pleasant temperatures of 20-30°C from April to October. In winter, it hovers around 10-15°C, but the wind makes it feasible for kiting. The best months span the entire year, peaking in September-April for reliable wind.
The depth is gradual with a sandy bottom. You can stand on the first 50 meters, then it drops off quickly. Perfect for easy waterstarts.
The water is warm at 20-25°C from April to October. In winter, it drops to 14-18°C, but a 4/3 wetsuit is more than sufficient.
