Gonnesa

Fontanamare, in Gonnesa, is a large spot in the southwest of Sardinia known for its exposure to the open sea and its clearly wave oriented character. The beach is long, open, and attracts both kiters and windsurfers when the maestrale comes in cleanly.

The spot is part of a fairly vast coastline, with a generally sandy bottom in the beach area, but also some more exposed areas where the sea can quickly become more challenging. It is a spot appreciated by independent riders, with a more sporty than family atmosphere as the wind picks up.

In summer, the presence of bathers can complicate navigation, while the best sessions are mostly outside the season, when the wind is more consistent and the beach less crowded.

معلومات مفصلة

Fontanamare mainly works with a NW wind, with an orientation most often side-on to onshore depending on the exact flow axis and the day's configuration. When the maestrale comes in well, the water quickly becomes more organized offshore and then more choppy near the shore, with exploitable waves on good swells. The beach being wide and open, launching is done directly from the sand, but one must remain attentive to the launch area and the traffic of bathers during the season.

The spot is especially interesting with established wind and a minimum of swell. In these conditions, one navigates on a wave type water, with chop mixed with sets of waves that are more or less clean depending on the wind strength. When the wind picks up, the sea can quickly become disordered, which requires experience and good control of the kite. At low tide as well as at high tide, the functioning remains generally good, as the spot is little dependent on the tide, but the state of the shore can vary slightly with the water height.

The easiest area to navigate remains the central section of the beach, avoiding launching too close to rocky areas or busy access points. Takeoff and landing require space, especially when the wind is strong. It is a spot more oriented towards intermediate to advanced, although less experienced riders can kite there in calm and well-established conditions.
