Mastichari
Grèce · South Aegean
Mastichari is a kitesurfing spot located on the northern coast of the island of Kos, opposite the island of Kalymnos. This small fishing port and seaside resort benefits from direct exposure to the Meltemi coming from the north, creating perfect conditions for onshore to side-onshore. The sandy beach extends west of the port with shallow water over a large area, ideal for learning kitesurfing.
The spot is one of the most reliable on Kos for wind, thanks to the Venturi effect between Kos and Kalymnos that accelerates the Meltemi. Mastichari works with the direct north Meltemi, onshore to side-onshore on this northern coast. The sailing area west of the port offers a wide space for sailing. The shallow water for the first 50-100 meters creates a safety zone for beginners and lessons. Kitesurfing schools operate on the main beach.
