Plage de Morsalines
France · Normandie
The beach of Morsalines, located on the east coast of Cotentin in Normandy, between Quinéville and Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, is a vast stretch of sand ideal for calm sessions. It is easily accessible via a coastal path near a large farm, with a view of the Vauban tower of Hougue, a UNESCO site.
This spot is popular among beginners due to its large beach where you can stand for several hundred meters, perfect for learning kitesurfing, windsurfing, or wing. Locals come here for freestyle at low tide or to catch some nice waves at high tide.
The atmosphere is calm and family-friendly, with a parking area that serves as a launch site for the kites.

The spot mainly works at high tide with a minimum tidal range of 5m, where the water rises little but allows for smooth navigation; at low tide, you can stand very far (50 to 100m or more), ideal for freestyle and beginners on a flat water surface. The optimal winds are from Northeast, East, Southeast, and South, which are side-shore or side-on relative to the east-west oriented beach, providing good pull without excessive gusts; with a West wind, it is unmanageable due to the dunes that disrupt the wind and make it dangerous.
Launching is done directly from the wide beach, with a launch area at the parking lot; the navigation area extends over the protected bay, with flat pools for freeride or foil, and small waves (50cm) at the shore at high tide that become more consistent further out. With a South to West wind at low tide, it is pure flat for freestyle, while at high tide with East to West, you can surf waves if the coefficient is high. Be cautious of stronger currents at high tide with high coefficients, and stay in the central area to avoid the edges.
