The wind data shown here comes from ERA5 (via Open-Meteo) over 4 years, reprocessed to reflect realistic conditions.
👉 Average wind has been calibrated to avoid the usual underestimation of models.
👉 Gusts have been corrected by a median ratio to avoid unrealistic extreme values.
👉 Each day is summarized by the median wind (P50) observed during useful hours (8am–8pm), then classified into wind ranges.
👉 The weighted mode mixes average wind and gusts to best reflect felt wind.
The spot is exposed to winds from the northwest to west, coming in side-on or side-shore relative to the east-facing beach. The riding area is divided into two spaces reserved for kitesurfers: the first right in front of the private beach over 800 meters long, perfect for beginners with its shallow water over several km²; the second a bit further out for advanced riders.
Launching is done directly from the fine sand, with no obstacles, assisted by club staff for takeoff and landing. The water remains flat to chop most of the time, with no marked influence from tides, and offers great safety due to the shallow water. Independent riders can head out towards the islet of Tawila for faster sessions.
The club has a rescue boat, compressors, and storage for personal gear. It is a windy spot year-round, with sessions possible from 8:30 AM to 7 PM.
Ideal conditions are with a side-on wind from the northwest between 18 and 25 knots, stable and thermal. It works well year-round, especially in the high season from May to October.
The water surface is generally calm, shifting from flat in the morning to a light chop in the afternoon with the wind. No significant waves due to the lagoon's configuration.
Currents are weak in the protected lagoon. Just watch out for the more open areas towards the sea, where they can be moderate.
For typical winds of 15-25 knots, plan for sizes between 9 and 12 m² for most riders. Beginners opt for 12 m² and above, while advanced riders go down to 7-9 m² in gusts.
Regular thermal winds mainly come from the northwest, with strengths between 15 and 30 knots depending on the season. There is no specific local name, but it is reliable every month, from morning until afternoon.
The climate is warm and sunny year-round on the Red Sea, with average temperatures around 25-30°C in winter and up to 35-40°C in summer. Dry seasons dominate, making conditions ideal for kitesurfing without rainy interruptions.
The depth is very shallow in the lagoon, often less than one meter over several km², with a clean sandy bottom. It is shallow everywhere for beginners.
The water of the Red Sea remains warm: around 22-24°C in winter (January-February) and 28-30°C in summer (July-August). A shorty lycra is often sufficient.
