Lagoa Camocim
Brazil · Ceará
Located at the far west of Ceará, Camocim is a unique destination: a place still authentic, isolated, and preserved, where nature prevails over tourism. The spot of Lagoa das Cangalhas, a few kilometers from the center of Camocim, is a small paradise for kitesurfing: a large shallow lagoon formed by the tides and the waters of the Rio Coreaú, surrounded by pristine dunes and mangroves. It is a place where the silence is only disturbed by the wind, where colorful sails contrast with the perfect blue of the water and the golden beige of the sand. The place is not overcrowded, far from it: a few local riders, some adventurers downwinding from Jericoacoara or Barra Grande… and that’s it. It’s a wild spot, without massive infrastructure, but of exceptional beauty — one of those places where you have the rare feeling of sailing alone in the world.

The Lagoa das Cangalhas is a tidal lagoon with very regular functioning. At high tide, the water is immense and perfectly flat, ideal for freestyle, big air, or simply riding in absolute comfort. At low tide, the water partially recedes, leaving ultra-shallow areas and smooth basins like glass, perfect for photos, training, or lessons. At low tide, the lagoon becomes more restricted, but remains navigable in several central sections. The east to southeast wind blows here strong and constant, between 18 and 26 knots, without gusts, and the sandy bottom ensures total safety.
The brackish water is warm, visibility is perfect, and the feeling of gliding among the dunes is just magical. For more adventurous riders, a mythical downwind connects Jericoacoara, Tatajuba, and Camocim, with a grand arrival at the lagoon: kilometers of pristine coast, shifting sandbanks, and a faithful wind from the first to the last meter.
