Serra-di-Ferra

Porto Pollo beach, located on the northern coast of Sardinia in Italy, is one of the most renowned kitesurfing spots in Europe. Although geographically in Sardinia, this site is often associated with the Corsican region due to its proximity to Corsica and its accessibility from the Strait of Bonifacio. It is a place that combines regular wind conditions, spectacular Mediterranean landscapes, and a dynamic community atmosphere.

The spot is divided into two main bays separated by a small peninsula. The west bay, reserved for kitesurfers, offers a wide sandy water area with crystal clear turquoise waters. This natural configuration makes it an ideal place for all levels, from beginners to advanced riders, with an atmosphere that is both wild and welcoming.

Localização

Informações detalhadas

Porto Pollo offers very variable conditions depending on the season. In summer (June to September), the wind mainly blows from the north-west in an offshore to side-offshore orientation, making it more technical and suitable for intermediate to advanced riders. In spring and autumn, the wind becomes side-onshore to onshore, creating a much safer and more accessible environment for all levels.

The water surface is generally very flat in the west bay, particularly appreciated for progression and freestyle. Depending on the wind conditions and the strength of the Mistral, the water can become choppy with waves reaching up to 2 meters on strong Mistral days, offering opportunities for advanced riders.

Launching is done directly from the fine sandy beach. The spot works in almost all wind directions due to its particular geography, although optimal conditions are found with a west to north-west wind. Local thermals strengthen the wind in the afternoon by several knots, allowing for riding more than 80% of the days in the summer season.

Riscos e segurança

  • The bay is divided into two zones: the east bay is reserved for windsurfers, while the west bay is dedicated to kitesurfers, minimizing the risk of collision.

  • The sandy seabed and gradual depth provide a safe environment, but one must remain vigilant with patches of seagrass that can affect buoyancy.

  • In summer, offshore winds can create dangerous conditions for beginners; it is recommended to take lessons from local schools before going out alone.

  • Local marine reserves must be respected, and it is important to follow the safety guidelines established by the local community.
