Grande Plage
France · Pays de la Loire
The Grande Plage in La Tranche-sur-Mer, Vendée, is a long stretch of fine sand that extends for several kilometers. It is a popular spot for kiters due to its generous space and easy access from the town.
The setting is lively in season with families and bathers, but locals always find places to kite by searching for the right zones. The atmosphere is friendly, typical of Vendée beaches.
Close to kitesurfing schools, it is a convenient place to progress or improve.

The Grande Plage offers a water surface oriented towards the west, ideal for northwest winds that are side-shore from the right side of the beach, providing consistent and clean wind for freestyle or freeride. South and west winds are also favorable, in side-on or light onshore, but avoid southwest winds which make the spot unusable.
Launching is done directly from the wide and clean sand, with a spacious take-off area at the beach edge, provided you respect the marked zones. The navigation area extends several hundred meters offshore, but remain vigilant near the channels and pontoons that structure the beach.
Depending on the tides, the water surface varies: at low tide, the sandy bottom emerges and the spot becomes more technical with flat areas for wakestyle; at high tide, the water rises and allows for smoother navigation with some chop. In summer, the thermal can pick up in the afternoon, making sessions more consistent.
