Plage de Cabourg
France · Normandie
The beach of Cabourg, located on the Normandy coast, is a popular spot for kitesurfers due to its shallow waters and proximity to the Le Menhir Normandie Kite school. Just 50 meters from the shop, Cap Cabourg offers easy access and a friendly atmosphere favored by locals and beginner riders. There is a beautiful stretch of fine sand, ideal for relaxing between sessions.
Nearby spots like Franceville 4 km away and Houlgate 2 km away complement the offering, with varied conditions depending on the winds. Cabourg remains the perfect home spot to progress safely, thanks to its large sandbanks that protect from waves at low tide.

The Cabourg spot is oriented facing west, which means that northwest winds come in side-on port along the entire coast, providing a steady water surface with a small swell. For southwest, head towards the bay of Salenelles where the wind is side-on on glassy water in the lagoons at high tide, perfect for safe navigation. Winds from north and northeast are also excellent, side-on starboard, often stronger than expected and steady.
Launching is done directly from the beach at Cap Cabourg, with a wide and clear take-off area. The navigation zone extends over shallow waters protected by sandbanks at low tide, ideal for beginners; at high tide, the space opens up but remains safe. In summer, a dedicated area is marked for kites, allowed year-round if rules are respected. Be cautious of other users like bathers during peak season.
