Barra Grande

Located on the Maraú Peninsula, between Itacaré and Morro de São Paulo, Barra Grande is a small isolated tropical village, accessible only by track or boat. Here, nature reigns supreme: coconut trees as far as the eye can see, turquoise waters, freshwater lagoons, and coral reefs forming natural pools at low tide. The main kitesurfing spot, Taipu de Fora, is a few kilometers south of the village. It’s a spectacular spot, both a powerful beach break and a crystal-clear natural pool depending on the tide. The scenery is unreal: white sand, amber-colored reefs, giant coconut trees, and tropical silence interrupted only by the wind and waves. Taipu de Fora is the paradise for nature lovers and pure sliding. It is not a school spot, but rather a playground for experienced riders looking for sessions in a pristine and vibrant environment. The contrast between the deep blue of the open sea and the translucent green of the coral pools gives each session an almost magical dimension.

Localização

Informações detalhadas

Taipu de Fora is a powerful ocean spot, highly dependent on tides. At low tide, the coral reefs are exposed and form natural pools where the water is calm and shallow — beautiful, but not navigable by kite. At high tide, the water becomes choppy with small waves, ideal for freeride or strapless. At high tide, the reef is completely covered and gives way to beautiful regular waves (1 to 2.5 m) that roll over several sections, perfect for surfkite. The east to southeast wind, side-on, blows between 16 and 25 knots from July to January, clean and consistent. The sandy bottom beyond the reef makes navigation pleasant, and the wide beach allows for easy takeoff. It’s a versatile but challenging spot: superb for surfkite, accessible for freeride at medium tide, to be avoided at low tide.

Riscos e segurança

  • Spot spectacular but technical.
  • Exposed reefs at low tide: navigation impossible before mid-tide.
  • Moderate to strong current: stay vigilant near the reef.
  • No rescue, accompanied navigation recommended.
  • No hidden rocks, sandy bottom outside the reef.
  • Wear booties if the tide is intermediate.
  • This is a safe but demanding spot, reserved for riders aware of maritime conditions.
