Pointe du Hourdel
France · Hauts-de-France (Somme)
Located at the southern entrance of the Somme Bay, the Hourdel Point is a unique spot, both wild and spectacular, marked by the meeting of the estuary and the open sea. Dominated by its iconic lighthouse and lined with pebbles, this point offers a raw and authentic atmosphere, very different from the large sandy beaches nearby. The Hourdel is sought after for its powerful and changing conditions, capable of providing great engaged sessions when the wind and tide are well synchronized, in an exceptional natural setting.

Kitesurfing takes place in open sea immediately near the estuary, with a very marked influence from the tides and currents of the bay. The spot works mainly around mid-tide to high tide, when the depth becomes sufficient and the pebbles are covered. The dominant wind blows from the west to northwest, arriving side to side-onshore. The water conditions are choppy to rough, with the formation of short and sometimes messy waves due to the outgoing currents from the bay.
